As soon as news came of problems with supplies of PPE, a network of concerned individuals and groups came together determined to help.
With financial support from Woodbridge Town Council’s Emergency Response Hygiene Group and East Suffolk Council Communities, Transition Woodbridge has been part of a team producing and distributing face masks, headbands, visors and scrubs with the help of its own local volunteers, local businesses and schools.
Working with Bev (of Bev’s Eco Products www.bevsbeeswaxwraps.co.uk), Linda of linda@evdriver.co.uk, Eve and members of our Upcycling bags group, we have been producing masks for carers, care homes, doctors’ surgeries and residents of independent residential complexes around the area. Bev has been making and donating her handmade masks, helped by the Transition Woodbridge upcycling group. Linda and her friends have been making their own face mask design, as has Eve with her face masks and headbands. Transition Woodbridge (on foot) and Linda (using her electric car) have been coordinating and distributing the delivery of these alongside 3D printed visors made by Kesgrave High School Technology Department and contacts at Bev’s Eco Products.
A team of 18 volunteers has also been sewing up kits in their own homes to make scrubs and scrub bags. These are being delivered to doctors’ surgeries and local hospitals. Members of Melton WI and Peggy have been knitting/crocheting hats, jackets, mittens and blankets for babies in the maternity unit at Ipswich Hospital.
Transition Woodbridge and supporters have been one group amongst many who wanted to help support the NHS and the care sector in the fight against Covid 19. We particularly wanted to show older people receiving care in their own homes or residential care homes and their carers that they are massively valued.
