Suffolk Salon Group Celebrate A Trio Of Finalist Place In Top Competition

A Suffolk salon group with outlets in Woodridge, Aldeburgh and Saxmundham has reached the finals of the hair industry’s most prestigious awards in three categories.

Salon owner Janene Hawkins-Bush is thrilled that, not only has her new salon Quay Street Collective in Woodbridge been recognised alongside her barbershop called Sir Barbers in Aldeburgh, but team member Alex Sullivan is in line to achieve the Best Assistant/Junior of the Year.

Janene’s plans to open Quay Street Collective with business partner Sophie Thompson were initially scuppered by the lockdowns. But, facing this adversity only made the team more determined to succeed when they finally did get to open the doors in August 2020.

Janene said: “The lockdown gave us time to really work on our strategy and recognise what was important to local people.

“As a dedicated and committed eco salon we heavily promoted this and made everyone aware of our environmentally friendly credentials and this really made an impact with our future client base.”

Since it opened in October 2018, Sir Barbershop has gone out to be the very best barbershop in the region. Both Janene and business partner, Tris Curling, are committed to serving both local customers and visitors to the town and have managed to keep everyone happy!

Tris said: “We are so dedicated to supporting not only our clients but our local community that we are thrilled the judges recognised the efforts we make to have a positive impact on Aldeburgh.”

For Junior barber Alex, 2020 has been a sensational year. Having recorded the highest score ever at the end of his barber apprenticeship, Alex was already celebrating being a finalist in the Best Apprentice category of The Modern Barber Awards.

Alex said: “Reaching the British Hairdressing Business awards finals is just the icing on the cake. It’s been an incredible year for me and for Sir Barbers.

“All I have ever wanted to be is a successful barber but to have my work and commitment recognised is fantastic.”

Janene and her team face tough competition from the other finalists, some of whom are among the biggest names in the industry. Winners will be announced at the grand award ceremony in London on Monday October 4.
