What do you know about Suffolk Army Cadets?
Boys and girls between 12 and 18 all over Suffolk are challenging their limits, expanding their skills, making new friends and going further than they ever thought possible. How? They’re in the Army Cadet Force!
So, what could you do? With Suffolk ACF you can learn fieldcraft, first aid, navigation, shooting, skill at arms, signals (radio comms, cyber, security and codebreaking), STEM and music to name a few. You can gain recognised qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and CVQO and take part in Cadet training weekends, expeditions, summer camps, adventure training, international exchange visits and sports (with the possibility of competing at regional and national level). We have so much to offer those looking for more out of life.
It’s not just the Cadets that get to develop new skills. Adult volunteers also have the opportunity to expand their horizons whilst making a real difference in the lives of young people. We welcome enquiries from those over 18 interested in challenging both the Cadets and themselves to go further. You don’t need any previous military experience as full training is given. One of the most rewarding things for us adults is to watch a Cadet achieve something they believed they could not and seeing their confidence, self-belief and independence grow.
In Ipswich and surrounding areas, C Company is made up of eight detachments (Cadet groups). Three are based at the Army Reserve Centre on Yarmouth Road and we have outlying groups in Felixstowe, Hadleigh, Kesgrave, Priory Heath and Woodbridge.
Even in these difficult times, we’re still active; meeting regularly through Zoom we learn, run challenges and competitions and catch up. We’re really looking forward to getting back to face-to-face training as soon as the restrictions allow and our plans and safety measures are all in place as soon as we get the green light.
Being an Army Cadet is about stretching yourself to do new things, having fun and making good friends. We are sponsored by the Army but we are not part of it and our Cadets go on to careers in every sector of life, many using the skills and qualifications they gained with us.
So, are you up for the challenge?
