Strawberries and plants have bought great excitement to Sproughton Community Shop in the last few days, a promise of summer and sunshine of spending even more time in our gardens and outside spaces, enjoying the weather and fresh air.
Our strawberries come from a grower in Lindsey and in our first week of stocking them we sold more than 100 punnets. They are that good!
As we enter our fourth month of restricted hours the shop continues to be a busy hub of activity and still we are doing our very best to support our village and the wider community. Some of our ‘new volunteers’ who signed up at the beginning of the pandemic are now returning to work as further restrictions are eased and life is unfolding further. We thank those people who gave up their time to volunteer in the community shop and wish them well in the weeks and months to come.
Our community shop would not exist if it weren’t for volunteers who run it day to day, giving up an hour or two to provide our local community with local produce that many people travel especially for.
Often shoppers say they are surprised at the range of items in our little shop, from fresh bread daily, eggs, cheese and dairy, meat and pies, fruit vegetables and plants, honey, jams, pickles and preserves, as well as store cupboard essentials, wine and beer, household items, toiletries and cleaning, stationery and cards. There isn’t much we don’t have; come and take a look.
We also want our shielding and isolating volunteers to know that they are missed and we look forward to seeing them back at the shop as soon as they are ready.
