Somersham and District Community Shop

We have an update at the Somersham and District Community Shop

We have an update from the lovely staff at the Somersham & District Community Shop:

The Playing Field, Princes Gardens, Somersham Telephone: 01473 833416

Mon, Wed, Thurs & Sat: 10am-1pm / Tuesday & Friday: 10am-4pm

Spring is here and we hope for warmer weather to come. It’s nice that the daylight hours are longer and we can get out and about a bit more. We thank our customers and volunteers for keeping the shop open throughout the winter and also Somersham, Nettlestead and Little Blakenham Parish Councils for their support throughout this time. We now look forward to seeing everybody in the days ahead when, hopefully, ice creams and lollies will be the order of the day.

A further £300 was donated to Ipswich Hospital for the benefit of the NHS and Macmillan Nurses. This brings the total raised in the shop to over £700 since the first lockdown began, all from the sale of masks made by volunteers, goose and duck eggs donated by Graham and the Macmillan Coffee Morning organised by Lucy. What a fantastic sum for such worthwhile causes!

Terrie was the winner of our Easter raffle with ticket number 600. We enjoyed having the primary school children in with their mums and dads when they were taking part in the FOSS Easter trail; it was lots of fun and we hope they raised a good sum for school funds.

We are thinking of having a fundraising drive for some new chillers, which are rather expensive. You may have noticed how noisy the present one; it will be nice to have some quieter ones with doors. We welcome your fundraising ideas.

As well as being a meeting place and a hub for fundraising for local organisations, we are here to provide a service to our locality by selling provisions and household goods. So come along and support us by trying out some of our locally grown tomatoes, freshly made pies, fruit, vegetables and cakes, as well as everyday necessities such as milk and bread. We also offer a dry-cleaning service and have a book exchange.

For now, we’re keeping our fingers crossed in hopes of resuming Coffee Corner meetings soon.

To keep up with all the news and produce in the shop, follow us on Facebook. We look forward to seeing you.
