New things for the spring

Thanks to some new volunteers joining the team, we are pleased to be able to extend our opening hours from this month. From 1 April, we are open until 4pm every weekday, with the exception of our ‘late night’ Thursdays when we are open until 6pm.

Please note, there are some changes to our opening hours over Easter:

  • Good Friday (7 April) 9am–12noon
  • Easter Saturday (8 April) 9am–1pm
  • Easter Sunday and Monday (9 and 10 April) Closed

Also new for April is the introduction of a Food Bank Collection Basket, for donations of food and toiletries to be shared with the Suffolk charity FIND (Families in Need). Donated items do not have to be purchased at the shop; we are happy to be a collection point and to support those who need extra help in these challenging times.

At our last committee meeting, we reflected on the much-improved situation at the shop and how, although the first few months of the year are always quieter, we feel confident that this year will soon follow in the footsteps of 2022; with new customers and volunteers, new products, and increased sales. Of course, there are still challenges to face, not least frequent price increases, but we are hopeful we can keep our prices fair and continue to stock a broad range of products to suit all budgets.

We are, however, keen to make plans to further protect ourselves in future, for example we will be bidding to the Somersham Parish Council CIL fund to enable us to install solar panels to reduce our energy costs. If you have any suggestions of other improvements or changes that could help, please get in touch.
