Open Events At Wood Ley Primary School

Wood Ley Community Primary School was built in 1989 as part of the rapidly expanding Chilton Hall Estate. It is currently home to 308 pupils with 12 full-time equivalent teachers supported by 14 full and part-time teaching assistants. Together, we are an enthusiastic and dedicated professional team who are committed to providing the best introduction to education.

The children made an enthusiastic return to school in September; it was obvious how much they had missed their friends and teachers. It is delightful to hear laughter in the building again and see everyone settle back into school routines.

Much work was done to create a Covid-safe environment including the introduction of a one-way system across the school, detailed signage, staggered start and finish times, allocated drop off and pick up times, multiple hand washing stations, virtual assemblies and limiting movement around the building. The children are taught in class bubbles, indicated by coloured bibs.

Virtual achievement assemblies are streamed to each class in order to maintain a sense of community. We have also introduced a virtual Wood Ley Newsround which is streamed to each class weekly and includes what is going on in each class and across the school, i.e. Walk to School Week. We have a gallery of children’s work which is shown at the end of the broadcast so everyone can see the super work across each of the year groups.

Wood Ley is a popular, child centred, supportive school with a warm and welcoming environment. We work in partnership with families to engage, encourage and inspire children to achieve their best.
