I wish to thank all who bowled at the Meadlands and made it an enjoyable four weeks. It’s a pity it couldn’t have been for longer but the Meadlands hasn’t shared their plans with us. Neither have we heard from the Stowmarket League so we don’t yet know what this year’s league will look like, though that may have changed by the time this edition is published.

Those who haven’t visited the club during lockdown will notice the kitchen has been completely updated. Thanks go to Linda Benthom and Pat Goodrum for their work in preparing the kitchen for its revamp. We have also had quotes to replace the fence, a job which will hopefully be done sometime in May.

You will also notice that the clubhouse has been painted in a lovely shade of green. Our thanks go to John Granville for this and for refurbishing the veranda supports which had rotted from the bottom. Isn’t it good to have a carpenter among our members!

Our green team has been busy all winter despite the Covid-19 restrictions and, once again, we thank John, Trevor and Alistair. We had an additional task this year as the ditches had to be emptied so a wooden support could be added to prevent bowls from being damaged. John Granville, Linda Benthom and Pat Goodrum assisted the green team in this rather arduous task which may delay the opening of the green until the end of April.

On a personal note, I would like to thank the club for buying me a brand new, very powerful pressure washer so I don’t suffer so much backache when I wash the slabs. Hopefully, I can get the work done so much quicker too.

I know that Alistair got a very good response when he phoned members to ask if they would be playing this year, so I look forward to seeing you all very shortly. As usual, stay safe.
