From the 10th through to the 16th of August, it’s National Allotments Week, as organised by The National Allotment Society.
There’s still time to enter the National Allotments Week Competition too. The theme for 2020 is ‘Growing Food for Health and Well-being – a reflection of the many benefits of growing, cooking and eating your own fruit and vegetables.
The annual campaign week due to take place from 10-16th August 2020 has been disrupted by the present Coronavirus Emergency, and with social distance still present The National Allotment Society cannot ask associations to plan Open Days and events that encourage people to congregate.
Therefore, this year they have gone digital and are encouraging plot-holders to enter our National Allotments Week Competition by producing videos and storyboards about their allotment story.
Here’s what they are looking for:
• “What my allotment means to me” – For Individuals (16 years +) – £100 prize for NAS members and free NAS membership plus £50 for non-members.
• “The history of our site” or “Our site’s projects and plans for the future” – For Associations – £200 prize for NAS members, Free association membership up to the value of £200 for non-members.
• “What I grow at the allotment” – For Children (up to 16 years) – £50 prize
They are asking for short mobile phone videos or storyboards (photo or illustration slides on a PowerPoint, it is easy to turn power-points in to mp4 files). There are some tips for using mobiles to create videos here: /www.charitycomms.org.uk/the-art-of-making-videos-on-your-phone. There are plenty of free editing tools available too.
The video submission will be uploaded to their YouTube channel. Be sure to check out all the entries! They even have a free pack of Bio8’s Active Earth for the first 20 entrants, and 3 runners up in each category will win a book from a choice of gardening books.
The deadline is 31 July 2020, so there’s not long left but there’s still time!
The winners will be announced during National Allotments Week, 10-16th August. Email entries to diane@nsalg.org.uk.
