This month we showcase the generosity of staff at a local company where the spirit of giving to others is clearly led from the top.
Every year staff at Precon Products Ltd, the independent specialist suppliers to the construction and building industry based at Lawn Farm Business Park in Woolpit, donate to a charity collection pot and in 2020 they decided to support local charities in desperate need due to the pandemic.
They purchased six trolleys worth of food for Stowmarket Foodbank where they were putting together 120 family hampers and many individual hampers for Christmas, in addition to their normal food parcels which have never been in more demand. Product director Ashleigh Hawes and his colleague Lydia Swallow are pictured dropping off the food.
Next, they purchased a multitude of presents for Stowmarket Salvation Army’s present appeal. The Salvation Army has 24 families who rely on them to provide presents for their children on Christmas Day, with some
families having up to eight children. They also purchased non-perishable Christmas food and Tesco food vouchers as the Salvation Army had upwards of 18 families who didn’t have the means to cook a meal for their family on Christmas Day.
In fact, staff were so touched by the work the Salvation Army do they donated a further £1,000 on their JustGiving page.
Precon Products also doubled the sum raised by Stowmarket Sugarcraft Club’s cake sale for the St Elizabeth Hospice. The cakes sold for £3,755 and Precon Products donated £4,000 with Managing Director Mike Philpot making a personal donation of £245 to bring the total to a nice round figure of £8,000.
Mike is pictured with Stowmarket Mayor Keith Scarff and members from the Stowmarket Sugarcraft Club and St Elizabeth Hospice.
We applaud Mike and all the staff at Precon for their generosity and hope those who are struggling to make ends meet right now take heart from the fact that companies like Precon are not only socially aware but determined to help others as much as possible.
