My name is Julia Ewart and I am the Liberal Democrat candidate for Suffolk Coastal.
Your local candidate
I have lived in Suffolk Coastal for more than 25 years. I’ve raised my family here, run a business here, volunteered here and I am now an elected district councillor for East Suffolk Council.
I know first-hand the joys of living and working in our region, but I also understand the challenges communities in Woodbridge are facing.
Mending broken healthcare services
As a former NHS nurse, top of my list of priorities as your MP is healthcare. I will help fix our broken health and social care services and make it easier to access appointments, whether that’s to see your GP, dentist or a mental health professional.
No-one should have to wait days or weeks to see their doctor or go without dental treatment because they can’t find an NHS dentist taking on patients.
Clean up our rivers
The environment is also a top priority for me, as a Green Lib Dem. The River Deben is the very heart of Woodbridge, providing the town with commercial and leisure opportunities as well as a rich habitat for wildlife. Yet in 2023, sewage spilled into its waters for over 200 hours. That’s unacceptable.
I’ll spearhead a new multi-agency approach to water in our region, and ensure companies polluting the Deben, or failing to protect it, are held accountable.
Help with the cost of living crisis
Soaring energy bills, food prices and housing costs are overwhelming for so many households in Woodbridge. As a result, living standards are plummeting and more people than ever are using foodbanks. This must change.
As your MP, I will fight for pro-people national policies which tackle the cost-of-living crisis, from ensuring benefits are fairer and cover the real cost of food and bills, and extending free school meals, to bringing down food and energy costs by increasing investment in British farming and clean energy infrastructure.
