Join The Virtual Midday Walk

St Helena Hospice’s Midnight Walk returns in September – with a twist! It’s been relaunched as a virtual daytime event, renamed as the Midday Walk for 2020.

The Midday Walk will still take place on Saturday 12 September, but participants are instead asked to start their walk at noon and can choose where they want to complete their 4.5 or 9-mile walk.

Sarah Wilson, St Helena Hospice’s fundraising manager, said: “A virtual Midday Walk isn’t quite how we envisioned our biggest event of the year but we’re making the best of this new virtual world we’re living in, whilst encouraging people to support their local hospice and stay active.

“Where we normally would all walk 4.5 or 9 miles together around Colchester, we’re now asking people to walk either on their own, or with their households – and they can choose whatever location they want – it could be their garden, their stairs, the treadmill, the park or the beach!”

This year St Helena Hospice celebrates its 35th anniversary and the hospice had been planning an 80’s themed Midnight Walk with its legendary party atmosphere to mark the occasion. However, as with all mass participation events, their plans had to be put on hold.

Sarah added: “We are unfortunately losing significant amounts of income every month as we haven’t been able to hold our usual fundraising events and activities. That’s why we’re hoping that the hundreds of people who were planning on joining us at one of our events this year, and many of our other supporters, will sign up to join the Midday Walk with their household and raise as much sponsorship money as they can for their local hospice.

“All the money raised from this Midday Walk will go towards our urgent appeal to help us continue to provide our vital care and support to our patients and families, now and in the future.

“For those keen to know if they will have a chance to do our 80’s themed Midnight Walk, we’re hoping we will be able to bring this to you next year, but for now please do join us at our Midday Walk.”

The Midday Walk is kindly sponsored by Birkett Long.
