The John Peel Centre has announced that it is recruiting three new members for its board of volunteer directors in preparation of its reopening.

The new board members will be responsible for overseeing Legal Affairs, Fundraising & Development and Inclusion, Accessibility & Diversity.

The announcement follows the approval of the lease of 11 Market Place by Mid Suffolk District Council to the John Peel Centre in January.

Jane Cox, Strategic Manager at the John Peel Centre, said: “This year marks a pivotal time in the history of the JPC. The arts and leisure industries have been significantly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and we cannot deny there have been and will continue to be hurdles and challenges to overcome.

“We are determined to come out of this pandemic with an arts and community space and programme that will support our community in its recovery and help it thrive once again. The lease of 11 Market Place is a huge opportunity for growth and marks a step-change for the JPC and our delivery. For this reason, we are looking to increase the skills and knowledge base within our leadership team.

“Our board are central to the development of the JPC and this is a rare opportunity to come onboard and help set the venue’s future direction.”

The new volunteer positions are open to anyone aged 18 and over. Interested candidates can apply via the John Peel Centre’s website.

The venue is preparing to reopen to the public in the coming months with a unique programme of live music, arts, and community activities. It has been closed since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and will reopen with new health and safety measures in place to prioritise the welfare of staff and visitors.
