Ipswich & District Philatelic Society

First I have to report the death of our treasurer and fairs organiser Bob Harvey. He was a long-standing and hardworking member and the person who previously wrote these articles for In Touch. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

As with most clubs, the Ipswich & District Philatelic Society has been unable to hold in-person meetings for several months. As we use Cedarwood Primary School for the majority of our meetings, it could be some time before they resume. In the meantime, to help us keep in touch, one of our members created a newsletter with contributions from members, which has been sent to all members via email and posted on our website.

Several of the usual fairs, in-person auctions and national exhibitions, such as Stampex, were cancelled, but others have taken place online, with many members using this facility to keep up with the hobby and using the precious time at home to catch up on neglected areas, such as writing up displays or sorting through their boxes of forgotten stamps.

Stampex is a key event for anyone interested philately. It is usually held twice a year at the Business Design Centre in London, and while both the spring and autumn events were cancelled, they are holding a Virtual Stampex from 1-3 October. The viewing booths, links to shops and documents will stay open until 28 October.

This is a great opportunity for all those interested in philately to see what goes on. For more information visit: www.stampexinternational.co.uk.

Philately is an excellent indoor hobby, so most collectors have been quite busy over the last few months. It’s also great to get children involved and there’s a special organisation to help do just that. You’ll find a vast amount of information to help you and your children get collecting at: www.stampactive.co.uk.

If you receive this magazine, are interested in stamp collection or other aspects of philately, such as postal history, visit our website for more information: www.ipswichphilatelic.uk.
