In Touch Community News

The month of April is quite significant to our family community and we look forward to celebrating Easter with traditional activities, like making mini Easter gardens, Easter ‘bonnets/hats’ and having an egg hunt! We will take a peek into what Easter means to our Christian families, as well as learning about Ramadan; its traditions, values and meaning for our Muslim families.

We enjoyed celebrating World Book Day with our favourite books and dressing up as characters. Our special books were laid out on a table, just like a blanket, so everyone could have a good look and talk about them with friends.

Have you ever made your own play dough? We try to make a batch every week that the children can join in. We mixed the playdough with our loose parts to create structures, funny faces, and ‘bake’ cakes. What a great way to build up our little hand muscles!

What you need:

2 cups flour, half a cup salt, 2 tablespoons cream of tartar, 1 to 1.5 cups boiling water (adding in increments until it feels just right) food colouring (optional) few drops of glycerine (optional but makes the dough stretchy!)

  • Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil altogether
  • Add food colouring to the boiling water then into the dry ingredients
  • Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough
  • Add the glycerine (optional)
  • Allow it to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a few minutes until all of the stickiness has gone. This is the most important part of the process, so keep at it until it is the perfect consistency!
  • If it is a little sticky then add some more flour until just right

We cannot wait for our new friends to start so we can show them all around our wonderful learning space. We are also looking forward to brighter weather to start cracking on with our kitchen garden and growing our own food! We warmly welcome families from our community to come to see us in practice. If you are ‘curious’ and have a three or four-year-old, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the School Office to arrange a visit: 01473 623 790 / nursery@gorseland.net
