Freeing Where We Live From Single-Use Plastics!

As we start to come out of lockdown, we’d like to invite you all to get involved in making us a Plastic Free Community. Let’s build back better and greener!

It is six months since we registered Manningtree, Mistley and Lawford with Plastic Free Communities and we are so pleased with what we’ve achieved so far:

  • Manningtree Town Council and Mistley and Lawford Parish Councils have pledged their support and their intention to go plastic-free and we have representatives from each council attending our meetings.
  • Five businesses have been awarded Plastic Free Champion status and there are more businesses making changes. Look out for Plastic Free certificates and plaques at Winyl, the Wholefood Store, Hobson’s Deli, Ragmarsh Farm Butchers and Mistley Fisheries.
  • Manningtree & District Business Chamber and PACE Manningtree have signed up as Plastic Free Community Allies.

What Can You Do?

  • Visit our plastic-free businesses and make the most of the opportunities we have on our doorstep to shop plastic-free. If you know of another business that could get Plastic Free Champion accreditation, let us know!
  • Get involved with the Big Spring Clean at the end of May. We are planning to clean up along the seawall and the riverfront to stop plastic litter from getting into the waterways and polluting our beautiful estuary. Look out for posters and information on social media nearer the time.
  • If you run a business, we’d love to talk to you about the changes you are already making to remove single-use plastics from your operations. We can also put you in touch with others who can help you to go further.
  • If you are part of a community group, can we come and talk to you about the problem with plastics and what we can all do to reduce our use of single-use plastics and protect our environment from plastic pollution?
