People in Ipswich have the chance to learn to up-cycle like a professional thanks to the launch of a new, hands-on workshop experience with the team at Emmaus Suffolk.
Emmaus Suffolk has been up-cycling donated furniture for many years and now wants to share those skills with its customers, giving them the chance to learn some of the basic skills needed to give their own furniture a new lease of life.
The Up-cycling for Beginners workshops run every Wednesday afternoon at the Emmaus Suffolk Workshop in Sailmakers, Ipswich, and are £10 for two hours. The charity will provide the materials needed, and workshop guests will have the option to buy their up-cycled furniture at the end of the workshop.
All up-cycling will be done using eco-friendly chalk paint which has been made using recycled household paint.
If craft is more your thing, the Emmaus Suffolk team is also running hands-on craft sessions at its Sailmakers workshop. Every Wednesday 10am – 12pm the Emmaus’ very own craft guru Chrissie will be running sessions for people of all abilities, from beginners through to craft pros. The workshops are £10, with all materials included.

“I like the collaboration side of things. Recently I saw two people with two different styles mesh together. Between them, from two different viewpoints, they created something lovely. Having this environment which allows this to happen is great. Those two people may not have met under different circumstances but they were able to here and created something really nice.”
