Normally we would have our gazebo at the Woodbridge Regatta to promote local public transport. The cancellation of the regatta this year has meant that we cannot have face to face contact with the large numbers of local people and visitors normally attending this event.
We have produced three bus-and-train leaflets this year, to encourage people to explore eastern Suffolk by train and bus and these will be available at local libraries, tourist information points and similar venues once these are open again. They can also be ordered from Trevor Garrod 15 Clapham Rd South, Lowestoft, NR32 1RQ (chairman@eastsuffolktravel.org.uk)
One of the leaflets is called “Saxmundham to the Coast” and highlights the bus links to Leiston, Thorpeness and Aldeburgh (one of which, service 64, also runs through Woodbridge)
The second one, “Discover the Blyth Valley”, encourages people to take the train to Halesworth and continue on the 99A bus along the valley to Southwold. It also promotes villages along the way, such as Blythburgh and Wenhaston and walking possibilities.
These two leaflets are updated versions of what we published in 2019. Our third leaflet is a brand new one “Discover Bungay and the Waveney Valley”. It encourages readers to take the train (every hour, seven days a week) from Woodbridge or Melton up to Halesworth or Beccles and then the bus from either town to the historic town of Bungay.
We hope that, when lockdown restrictions are relaxed, people will get out and about again and explore our beautiful county.
