East Suffolk National Trust Association invites you to their April meeting at Ropes Hall Kesgrave War Memorial Community Centre, Twelve Acre Approach, Kesgrave, Ipswich, IP5 1JF. The start time is 7.15 pm.
At the meeting on 18 April, Roger Hermiston will be speaking about George Blake, The Greatest Spy of All. George, born in Holland, first rose to prominence fighting heroically for the Dutch Resistance during the Second World War. He was recruited by the British Secret Service and quickly established himself as one of their best agents. However, he was a double agent, working for the Russians. Roger will be explaining not only his early life, but also his capture, imprisonment, and subsequent escape to Russia. It will be an interesting talk on a fascinating character.
On 16 May, Peter Hesketh will be giving a talk entitled Circumnavigating the World on Container Ships, describing life on the container ships of today. Visitors are welcome, the entrance fee is £3 each. The annual subscription is £8 per year (£12 per couple at the same address). We publish three newsletters a year for members and enjoy interesting day outings and other events.
