Manningtree and District Dementia Support Group (who previously ran the Dementia Cafe in Foundry Court) are acting as co-ordinators for Tendring Dementia Friendly Communities initiative, working with the local churches, shops, the library, and the Town Council, to assist those living with dementia and their carers. We will begin in the New Year, offering dementia awareness training from the Alzheimers Society and LookWell East, as well as bringing the community together with events, such as “Singing for Pleasure” and the Memory Cafe at the Library.
“Singing for Pleasure” is a free session of singing for all abilities, especially helpful for those with memory problems or living with dementia. We offer a warm and friendly space to join with others for coffee, tea and chat, followed by an hour of enjoyable singing together, mostly well-known songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Local transport can be arranged on request.
“Singing for Pleasure” takes place on the second Friday of each month at Mistley Church Hall, New Road, Mistley (opposite the Mistley Towers) at 10.30am for coffee and 11am for singing. All are welcome. The dates for the first few months of 2024 are as follows:
Fridays, 12 January, 9 February, 8 March and 12 April.
The Memory Cafe at Manningtree Library in the High Street, is on the last Friday of each month from 10-11am.
