East Bergholt Cricket Club has launched an ambitious Crowdfunding initiative in conjunction with Sport England to raise £20,000 by May 13 following a difficult financial year for the club during the Covid-19 summer of 2020.
Local Estate and Letting Agent, Palmer & Partners, has agreed to extend their sponsorship of East Bergholt Cricket Club to help get the fundraising underway with a donation of £3,000. A further £6,000 contribution will be received from Sport England (a government body that awards grants to sporting clubs) if the club achieves its targets.
The club has already received a number of ‘rewards’ from local people and businesses which can be selected in return for a donation. They are many and varied with something for everyone, from ITFC signed shirts to free champagne for those booking two lunches at the festival at the end of August, horse riding lessons, even consulting services for those looking to have an extension!
Nathan Philpot, Chairman of East Bergholt CC added “We had our most successful year ever during 2019 when we were promoted to Division 1 for the first time in our history and were champions of Division 6. We need a stable financial footing to build on that success and improve our junior set up attracting more boys and girls into the sport after being cooped up inside for so long during Covid-19. We hope that success continues and would like to thank Palmer & Partners as well as the local community for their generous support.”
Encouraging local boys and girls to play this summer
The club will be using funds to invest in their Junior Coaching programme to encourage more kids of all ages and genders to get back into sport following a tough time for everyone. Junior coaching begins on Saturday 8 May at 9am with All Stars (ages 5-8), Dynamos (ages 8-11) and hard ball junior cricket for U11s, U13s and U15s, all supported by qualified ECB coaches. There will also be midweek Suffolk League cricket for these age groups.
