This seems a strange thing to do after about 20 months since my last report. However, we had our open day on April 25 and were supported by 30 bowlers, which was a great turn-out. The weather was sunny but unfortunately very chilly. Being unable to use the clubhouse due to Covid-19 restrictions and the fact that we had to have two sessions, meant a bit of waiting around between sessions, causing some teeth to chatter! Nevertheless, everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.
After the first wood was bowled, by yours truly, play commenced in the form of a club triples with the number of games won and shots gained. The winners were Tony Turner, Hermy Breitsprecher and Roger Smith and the runners-up were Jason Smith, Steve Hardiman and Arthur Lockwood. This was a good start to the season.
The green looked splendid and certainly played extremely well. Many thanks must go to Jason Smith and his helpers for getting the green in such good condition, which I’m sure will be the envy of other clubs in the county. We also thank Marilyn Smith for arranging all the necessary equipment and instructions to conform to Covid-19 regulations.
Things will hopefully improve as the season progresses but, at the moment, it is just good to get on the green again and meet up with friends after all this time. Good luck to everybody and stay safe.
