I hope that at the time of this publication, those in the top critical groups across our villages will have received the Pfizer or Oxford/Astrazeneca vaccine.

The task is an enormous undertaking for the whole country and especially in rural communities. Thank you to all those people who are working hard on our behalf to make this happen.

Good news for the environment
On 7 January 2021, BDC Cabinet considered proposals and agreed to cut their fleets carbon emissions by up to 900 tons a year. Moving their vehicle fleet from diesel to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil is a major step in the council’s Carbon Reduction Management Plan to achieve zero carbon by 2030.

They also agreed to proceed with the procurement of a supplier for the provision of HVO fuel, the installation of a fuel tank at Chilton Depot in Sudbury and capital and revenue budgets for this project for three years.

Support Payments during required self-isolation
More residents on low incomes and benefits can now get financial help if they are told to self-isolate by NHS Test & Trace on or after the 28 September 2020. This requirement is a legal obligation to do so and you may be eligible for a £500 Test & Trace Support Payment. Contact Babergh District Council ( or Suffolk Support and Advice Service on 0800 068 3131 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Local Elections
On 6 May 2021, Suffolk residents will go to the polls. As Covid-19 is dominating our lives and future restrictions are unknown, the council is already putting in place arrangements to keep us all safe whilst we exercise our democratic right to vote (especially those over 70 years old). We have three options: to go to the polling station, to complete a vote by post or to appoint a trusted person to vote on our behalf (proxy vote). I have already registered for a postal vote to ensure that whatever situation I am in, I know I will have voted without worrying on the day about getting to the polling station.

If you would like to vote by post, go to the Babergh District Council website and search for ‘How to Vote’. For those not online, call 0300 123 4000 and select option seven, Electoral Services.

For those new to our villages or who have not yet registered to vote, please note that you cannot vote if you are not registered. Find out how to register on the DBDC website or call Electoral Services on the number above.

We continue to benefit and receive the support from all our volunteers in
Harkstead, Holbrook and Stutton. Thank you.
