We’re coming to the end of the Scouting year, and we’ve been a little hindered by the recent weather, but we’ve still been very busy.
The Beavers have been Pond dipping at the allotments, having water fights, a trip on the train to Harwich and working towards their disability badge: learning sign language and how to spell their names, looking at braille and understanding the difficulties those with disabilities face in an ableist world. Coming up next term there’s a trip to Orwell observatory and a visit with a beekeeper and their bees.
The Cubs had a blast at their summer camp and achieved their athletics and naturalist badges. We’re getting ready for an action-packed programme after the holidays with fencing, a Pokémon evening and a visit to the RAF Museum in London to list just a couple of the exciting activities coming up.
The Scouts have spent some time on the water this month with a brilliant sailing lesson at Alton water. And they’ve hiked from Flatford to Manningtree. Coming up they’re looking forward to an expedition camp in the summer and the annual Halloween camp ‘Scarefest’ in October.
On Friday, 12 July we held our AGM with a family BBQ, campfire and games and our end of year badge presentations for our members.
On Saturday, 14 September we are holding an open morning for existing and prospective new members to come along and try out some of the activities on offer such as backwoods cooking and games. More details of how to book will be published soon but you can register your interest here: 1stCapel@wolseyscouts.org.uk. And as always this same email address can be used to register your interest to join the group, to volunteer as a leader or on the trustee board, or to come along to a meeting to tell us about your interesting skill or hobby.
Some of our members will be moving up or moving on after the summer holidays. We’ve enjoyed having them and hope they have enjoyed and valued their time in the groups. We wish them all the best. We hope all our members and their families have a happy, healthy and hopefully sunny(!) summer holidays and we are looking forward already to the new term in September.
